Job Description


Registration Clinical Rep is responsible for prompt, courteous and efficient registration of patients, including verification of insurance, medical necessity screening, collection of deposits/payments, and appropriate routing of paperwork.  The Registration Clinical Rep performs 12-lead EKG’s and rhythm strips and draws blood and collects specimens, labels all specimens appropriately and transmits to the Laboratory. The Registration Clinical Rep provides patient-focused care through delivery of multiple services brought to the patient. 


  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of the hospital and assigned work area.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of computers, phones, and equipment used in departments to provide service to our customers.
  • Performs 12-lead EKG and rhythm strips in a careful and accurate manner according to the stated procedure.
  • Has basic knowledge of electrocardiography.
  • Has knowledge and ability to use the system for storing EKG’s.
  • Maintains and cleans EKG machine in a careful and accurate manner.  Does minor troubleshooting of equipment as necessary.
  • Obtains accurate information in the pre-admit process.
  • Inputs registration information via appropriate computerized programs.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and benefits in a timely manner.  Financially screens patients.
  • Consistently requests deposits and payments as per policy.
  • Consistently checks for medical necessity, if necessary, via appropriate tools. 
  • Obtains ABN’s as necessary.
  • Registers patients in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner.  Greets all patients, identifies self and briefly explains sequence of procedure.
  • Prepares patient ID armband and places band on patient’s wrist during registration process.
  • Identifies patient appropriately at registration and when providing services of the multi-skilled position.
  • Accurately follows doctor’s orders for ordering all ancillary tests, entering appropriately in computerized system, and providing those tests which are a part of the multi-skilled position.
  • Notifies ancillary areas when patient is ready to move to another area of testing via computerized tracking system.
  • Maintains accurate manual logs as required by position.
  • Maintains work area in sanitary condition.
  • Monitors supply usage, orders supplies as necessary, and stocks patient rooms/work areas with supplies.
  • Draws blood from patients and sends specimens to the laboratory for analysis according to established procedures.
  • Accurately labels all specimens, including date, initials and time.
  • Reviews all computer printouts on patient requests for pertinent demographic and clinical information. 
  • Knows what information is important and uses it for proper handling of each patient or notifies involved personnel of this information.
  • Adheres to strict maintenance of patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality of clinical and financial information as well as diagnosis.
  • Selects proper procedure to be followed and is able to perform within standards established for procedure.
  • Consistently meets productivity standards set on the unit for registration, pre-registration, collections, medical necessity, and patient flow.
  • Performs limited diagnostic tests: schedules collection times of glucose tolerance tests.
  • Meets or exceeds benchmarks of the quality program and maintains high personal quality in the duties of position.
  • Has a working knowledge of processes in all locations (BRACC, Cedar’s Lab, & LGMC Diagnostics) and is able to function / work each area.
  • Has a working knowledge of patient safety goals.
  • Applies and follows standards of Joint Commission practices as appropriate.

Job Requirements


  1. High school graduate or equivalent. 
  2. Subjects in chemistry and biology preferred. 
  3. Medical Technologist training preferred. Successful completion and release from on-the-job phlebotomy, business office and basic EKG training courses.
  4. Extended on-the-job training.
  5. Must become certified within first 12 months of hire.
    1. Will need to obtain certification as a Certified Phlebotomist through the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, and is able to master all disciplines of the multi-skilled position including registration, insurance verification, phlebotomy functions, and EKG’s. Ability to type 20-30 wpm.
  6. BLS – Heart Saver preferred.

  •  Medium Work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor constitutes a maximum lift of 21-50 pounds on occasion and/or a maximum lift of 11-25 pounds on a frequent basis
  • May be required to assist in the turning, lifting, or moving patients as well as walking about from patients’ rooms, as well as to and from various hospital areas
