Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Cardiovascular Ultrasonographer performs diagnostic examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physicians

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs various diagnostic testing.
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis
  • Selects and operates equipment as directed
  • Performs diagnostic testing in the Non-Invasive Lab, patients rooms (portable), and surgery
  • Lifts, moves, and transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher
  • Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients
  • Able to notify ordering physician with preliminary report on diagnostic testing as per physician request
  • Secures and returns supplies – film, linen, patient folders, etc.
  • Maintains adequate supplies for proper lab operation
  • Obtains a complete clinical history
  • Collects and records data obtained onto digital recording system
  • Insures test reporting is accessible in hospital computer system and to requesting physician
  • Schedules appointments and daily add-on tests
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of the hospital and Cardiology Department
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Must be able to assess the patient’s status, communicate effectively, and provide care for each age group
  • Participates in after hour on-call rotation duties specific to department needs

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduated from an accredited school of Cardiovascular Sonography; echo and/or vascular registry eligible; credentials must be acquired within two (2) years   (OR)
  • Credentialed as an echo and/or vascular sonographer with at least four hundred (400) actual scanning hours
  • Certified in CPR within 30 days of employment and recertified prior to expiration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  •  Medium level work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor constitutes a maximum lift of
  • 21 - 50 pounds on occasion and / or a maximum lift of 11 -25 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Standing most of the time
  • Pushing mobile equipment to area of use
  • Reaching for supportive devices and machine controls
  • Talking and hearing to give instructions to patients
  • Near visual acuity and depth perception to examine exposed film for pertinent detail
  • Works inside - Electrical and radiant energy hazards. Wears protective gloves and apron during certain procedures
  • Lifting of patients on and off table
