Job Description


Operates switchboard to relay incoming calls, outgoing calls, and pages.  Prints out account inquiries for billers.  Patient populations served includes patients of all ages, from newborns to geriatrics.


  • Processes incoming and outgoing telephone calls efficiently, politely, and as quickly as possible.
  • Pages medical staff, disaster and emergency codes promptly, with clarity, and in a calm manner.
  • Places all long distance calls for patients and visitors
  • Places all long distance calls for patients and visitors.
  • Pages authorized personnel.  Announces the close of visiting hours at 8:00 p.m.
  • Greets and directs guests in a friendly and cooperative manner.
  • Assists Administrative Assistant in clerical duties for mass mailings.
  • Participates in hospital Quality Assurance program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • This work level is defined as sedentary work.

Job Requirements


  • High school diploma required.
  • Experience with automated systems preferred.
  • Previous experience as an operator or receptionist desirable.
  • Experience with automated systems preferred.
  • Possess typing skills.
  • Capable of operating switchboard system, copier, printer and 10-key calculator.
  • Excellent communication skills.

  •  Medium Work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor constitutes a maximum lift of 21-50 pounds on occasion and/or a maximum lift of 11-25 pounds on a frequent basis
  • May be required to assist in the turning, lifting, or moving patients as well as walking about from patients’ rooms, as well as to and from various hospital areas.
