Job Description


I. The Nurse Technician is responsible for a variety of Decision Making/Problem

Solving functions.

A. Demonstrates the ability to interact therapeutically with patients and family members.

B. Practices cost effectiveness in each job-related activity and decision.

C. Participates in meetings, inservices, committees, and councils.

D. Demonstrates a proactive approach by suggesting changes/ projects to improve patient care

and the work environment.

E. Is flexible in scheduling to meet the needs of the patient care area.

F. Maintains patient and employee confidentiality.

II. The Nurse Technician is responsible for Initiative/Commitment in the hospital.

A. Must meet clinical competencies specific for assigned unit

B. Maintains safe, neat and clean physical environment in patient care area according to OSHA,

safety and infection control mandates.

C. Takes necessary safety precautions.

III. The Nurse Technician is responsible for maintaining Quality/Productivity.

A. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of

the patients in the patient care area.

B. Provides unit specific patient care under the guidance of licensed professionals.

C. Manual dexterity and motor coordination to perform such skills as lifting and turning


IV. The Nurse Technician will be responsible for participating in Teamwork within the


A. Assist with unit specific tasks under appropriate supervision.

B. Assists other team members in completion of duties.

C. Displays concern for all staff.

D. Works effectively as team member.

E. Works in a collaborative manner with multiple caregivers.

F. Supports the goals and missions of LGMC.

G. Adheres to the policies and procedures of LGMC.

H. Seeks out learning opportunities by observing more complex tasks performed by the

licensed caregiver.

V. The Nurse Technician will be responsible for maintaining communication skills throughout the


A. Maintains open communication with other team members regarding patients’

performance and progress.

B. Maintains the confidentiality of patient information from public.

C. Demonstrates ability and willingness to effectively communicate both in writing and


D. Able to establish and maintain rapport with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff.

E. Documents appropriately in the medical record including completion of tasks and order


Job Requirements


A. Completion of high school education or equivalent required.

B. CPR - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification to be obtained with in 30 days of hire.

C. Falls Prevention, OSHA, and Restraints must be completed with in 30 days of hire and

renewable annually.

D. Pursuing a degree/licensure as a RN or LPN and must have completed clinical competencies

in Fundamentals of Nursing from school attended.

1) Letter of recommendation from the Instructor is required

2) Copy of completed competencies or skills checklist is required. 


Medium Work - Medium level work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor  constitutes a maximum lift of 21 – 50 pounds on occasion and / or a maximum lift of 11 – 25 pounds on a frequent basis. May be required to assist in the turning, lifting, or moving of patients. Walking about from patient rooms and to and from various hospital areas.
