Job Description

SUMMARY:

Massage and knead muscles and soft tissues of the body to provide treatment for medical conditions, injuries, or wellness maintenance. Administer therapy treatments to patients using hands or physical treatment aids.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Confer with clients about their medical histories and problems with stress or pain to determine how massage will be most helpful.

• Interview patients to gather medical information.

• Apply finger and hand pressure to specific points of the body.

• Administer therapy treatments to patients using hands or physical treatment aids.

• Maintain treatment records.

• Maintain medical records.

• Assess clients' soft tissue condition, joint quality and function, muscle strength, and range of motion.

• Assess physical conditions of patients to aid in diagnosis or treatment.

• Treat clients in professional settings or travel to clients' offices and homes.

• Provide clients with guidance and information about techniques for postural improvement and stretching, strengthening, relaxation, and rehabilitative exercises.

• Teach medical procedures or medical equipment use to patients.

• Develop and propose client treatment plans that specify which types of massage are to be used.

• Develop patient therapy programs.

• Consult with other health care professionals, such as physiotherapists, chiropractors, physicians, and psychologists, to develop treatment plans for clients.

• Confer with other professionals to plan patient care.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

• Must currently hold a massage therapist license in the state of Louisiana.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Medium to Heavy Work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor constitutes a maximum lift of 21-50 pounds on occasion and/or a maximum lift of 11-25 pounds on a frequent basis

• May be required to assist in the turning, lifting, or moving patients.
