Job Description

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Performs a variety of duties in the physical plant in the upkeep, repair, and testing of the HVAC systems and related machinery and equipment.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC pneumatic and electronic control systems, pneumatic control valves for chill water, steam, and hot water. Repairs and installs tubing, piping, and valves on air, water, and steam systems.

2.Repairs to air handling equipment; ie, replaces bearings, belts, pulleys, and air filters.

3.Solders, brazes, and welds metal. Checks and adjusts air handling systems for proper airflow, temperature, and humidity.

4.Performs the duties of Plant Operator as relief operator as needed.

5.Assists in performing required tests on the fire alarm system and other systems as required. Adjust tamper and flow switches when needed.

6.Repairs/replaces pressure reducing valves, pressure regulating valves, and relief valve for steam, water, and air system.

7.Insulates piping systems.

8.Services and maintains roof top units, split DX systems, and Liebert air conditioning units.

9.Uses refrigerant recovery equipment when servicing refrigerant bases systems.

Job Requirements

1. EDUCATION-TRAINING-EXPERIENCE

A. High School graduate with good reading and writing skills.

B. Graduate of a technical school or journeyman program in air conditioning.

C. Previous five (5) years experience as a journeyman HVAC technician with specific experience as described in the position description.

D. Refrigerant technician certification, Type III minimum required.

E. A licensed journeyman HVAC mechanic is preferred.

C. Must be able to communicate and get along well with others.

3. INTEREST

A. Ability to accomplish tasks within set time frames.

B. Ability to react calmly in stressful and emergency situations.

5. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

A. Work area at times may be a boiler room type environment where the temperature exceeds 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

B. At times when work must be carried out in an extremely dirty or contaminated area, respirators must be worn.

C. Bends, lifts, carries objects such as tools, parts, salt bags, etc. weighing up to 100 lbs. to and from the job site.

D. Must be able to climb ladders, sometimes as high as 15 feet above ground.
